License Distribution Service - How it works

License Distribution Service is a SOAP (simple object access protocol) webservice, and is designed to allow programmers to interact with it to build business systems that utilize the facilities it provides.

With the flexibility of License Distribution Service, programmers can develop whatever interfaces are needed to facilitate license fulfillment. The layers you add on top of License Distribution Service provide an interface to the service to accomplish specific business requirements. As shown in the figure below, the webservice is designed for having different interfaces such as web portals, CRM systems, user applications, and automated processes for accounting.

How License Distribution Service Works

The interfaces you develop can provide many different avenues for license fulfillment. For example, you can connect to a web page that processes orders--for example, by credit card--and adds licenses into the system, or you can use the service to manually create individual licenses for customers. Customers can download a license by accessing a web page where they can buy applications with a credit card, add their obtained Order ID (which acts like an activation key and is in the format AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD) into your application, or use whatever method you choose for acquiring licenses.

Because License Distribution Service is a programmable system that you can integrate with your existing environment, it can evolve to help you solve your business goals of today and tomorrow.
