License Statistics is one of the most flexible license server monitoring solutions on the market, with support for nearly 40 different license managers, as well as custom servers and end user applications. This article provides an overview of using License Statistics to monitor license servers for some of the most popular software solutions used by our customers, with handy links to our past articles that give you complete details for adding your license server to License Statistics.
Siemens NX X
Setting up Siemens NX license server monitoring has traditionally been done by adding a FlexNet license manager. However, newly introduced with License Statistics v7.3, you can directly add a new Siemens NX X license server to monitor Siemens’ cloud-based Xcelerator Products, such as Designcenter X NX and NX X. Using your online Siemens account, you can download an events archive file that includes usage and denials data from the Xcelerator Admin Console and then import the data in the same way as any other import data source.
FlexNet
Although FlexNet has some rudimentary license usage tracking capabilities, monitoring your FlexNet license server with License Statistics is a game-changer. With License Statistics, you can set up remote monitoring as well as importing denied request logs and encrypted report log files, plus you get information on realtime denials, license borrowing, license reservations, and token features. You even have the ability to turn on Feature Versioning, which gathers usage and denials data separately for all versions of a particular feature, thereby providing a finer granularity to report results. This is useful if, for example, cost or level of usage varies depending on individual feature versions.
Ansys
License Statistics lets you monitor your Ansys license server to import logs of usage data, as well as take advantage of advanced capabilities, including user/host anonymization and Feature Versioning, which is used in the same way as described for FlexNet, above.
MATLAB
Since MATLAB uses technology based on Flexera’s FlexNet license server to provide network licensing, monitoring your MATLAB usage is done by adding the FlexNet server that hosts your MATLAB licenses to the servers that License Statistics is monitoring. License Statistics lets you gather your MATLAB license server data for both remote and imported data sources, plus offers advanced reporting features, including license borrowing, license reservations, and token licenses.
SolidWorks
License Statistics lets you gather your SolidWorks license server data for remote and imported data sources, as well as reporting on license borrowing, license reservations, and token licenses. Because SolidWorks uses SolidNetWork License Server (based on Flexera’s FlexNet license server) to provide network licensing, you monitor your SolidWorks license server by adding the FlexNet server that hosts your SolidWorks licenses to the servers that License Statistics is monitoring.
CATIA
CATIA is produced by Dassault Systèmes and licensed using DSLS (Dassault Systèmes License Server), so you can track your CATIA usage by adding a Dassault license server to License Statistics. With CATIA license server monitoring, you can enable remote monitoring, which lets you see usage information from the time you add the license server to License Statistics, as well as import both hosted and managed DSLS log files. You’ll also be able to take advantage of sophisticated usage monitoring features, including realtime denials, license borrowing and reservations, and token features.
Autodesk
You can use License Statistics Agent to monitor usage data for Autodesk applications that are running on end-user host machines, including hostname, username, application name, and when the session was started/stopped. You can also import subscription and user data from Autodesk Cloud to License Statistics by uploading metadata that’s been exported to an archive file. This archive file includes data for products (features), license details (totals), and seat assignments (reservations).
